Selection process includes:
Oral board interview, written test, and Chief’s interview. After selections are made, you will be invited to attend our academy.
Testing date: February 28th at Station 41, 186 Egloff Dr. Time will be scheduled with the applicant.
You must be willing and able to commit to our Probationary Training Academy, with full attendance.

Academy times: 9:00am to 5:30pm each day, at Station 41, 186 Egloff Dr.
Current minimum expectations and qualifications. Please fully read below, there are items that need to be submitted with your application:
· Be at least 18 years of age.
· Maintain residence within the Municipality of Anchorage.
· Maintain a valid Alaska driver's license.
· Maintain a working phone or cell phone.
· Submit a State of Alaska Background investigation dated within 30 days of the first hire date (at applicant's expense) with application packet.
· Submit a driving record check with application packet no older than 30 days from submission of application
Meet the Municipality of Anchorage Driving Conviction Guidelines (last sheet of the application packet).
· 48 hours per month of shift coverage. Hours can be broken down into 3 hour shifts that can be worked in a variety of ways.
· 50% attendance to Tuesday Night Training at the fire station.
· Willingness to follow Safety procedures in the workplace.
Preference will be given to individuals who:
Have a current Alaska EMT-1 or higher certification.
Current structural firefighting certificates.
Show enthusiasm for learning new skills and teamwork
FAQs
Can I specialize in Fire or EMS?
- Members will have to respond to both Fire and EMS calls and will receive basic training for both. Paid On Call members are encouraged to hold certifications in both but are not required to
Do I need prior EMS or Fire experience?
- No, but preference is typically given to those individuals with Advanced EMS and Fire certifications.
What time commitment is needed to be a member?
- 2-year commitment preferred, 1-year commitment required.
- We begin with a training academy that is scheduled over three weekends. Then you will have a minimum 6 month long probationary period to complete the required training and skills demonstration for full membership. As a member, you will need to reach a minimum of 48 hours per month of on-call shifts, and attend Tuesday night training. There are some training minimums as well, but we supply most of what the members need here at the Station.
Will I be allowed to have facial hair?
-All facial hair must be kept out of SCBA mask sealing area. This is focused on jaw line. Mustaches and some other styles may be accepted.
